I work at Rosemary's Romance Books in Brisbane and read many books as they come out and quite a few ARC. I give advice to lots of people during the day so I thought I'd share my opinion in the blog. If there are specific books you'd like reviewed let me know and I'll see what I can do. (the opinions I express are my own and are in no way to be considered those of Rosemary)

Sword of Darkness

Sword of Darkness by Kinley MacGregor

Once a young boy, hated, reviled and hunted, came upon a sword locked in a stone. In desperation the boy tried to draw the weapon so he would not be defenseless when the hunters caught him. The sword released into his young body a power unheard of, but the sword was not Excallaber and the boy was not Arthur. It was Kerrigan that pulled the sword from the stone, a sword created to balance Arthur's legendary weapon, evil in place of good. Now as the King of Camelot Kerrigan cannot afford any weakness, for under Morigan's rule a weak king is a dead king.

Seren lives a simple life, her greatest dream is to be a journeyman weaver. After a years hard work, scrimping and saving, she finally has a cloth she believes will grant her entry into the guild hall. Stunned and shocked by their rejection Seren begins her journey home only to be accosted by two strange Knights claiming to be from Arthur Pendragon's court. More than that they claim she is to be the mother of the next Merlin. To wise to fall for their tricks and unwilling to risk her apprenticeship by giving up her innocence she runs, right into the path of a dark knight named Kerrigan.

Having captured the mother of the next penmerlin, Kerrigan has no interest in keeping her alive other than to offer a trade for Arthur's round table. Still when he gets what he wants undoubtedly the woman will die, except Seren does not fear him and for the first time in his life Kerrigan wants what can only be freely given. Seren touches something deep inside Kerrigan awakening instincts to claim and protect that not even the King of Camelot can fight.

Set in a beautiful and compelling world Sword of Darkness will quickly draw you into Ms. MacGregor's version of the post Arthurian legend with a definite twist. This excellent start to the Lords of Avalon series introduces a fabulous cast of secondary characters who's story's you'll be looking forward too. A pair of sympathetic and well written main characters that evoke feelings so strong they will make your belly clench while the hot passion between them will steam your senses. I am eagerly awaiting the release of Varian and Merewyn's story in November.
